about the data
Nothing on this globe is silent.
Palayanm always shows 57 typical migration routes, placed from biology calendars and labelled typical route. Where we have a license-safe GPS pack, tagged individuals replace that species’ typical agent and the HUD says tagged · GPS (or Argos / geo). White Stork and Caspian Tern are extra tagged packs with no profile row.
How placement works
- 01Typical Waypoints are densified on the great circle. Position follows today’s day-of-year vs the outbound / return window.
- 02Tagged Public Movebank studies are fetched at build time, folded onto day-of-year, and replayed. Never a live API in your browser.
- 03Overlay If a GPS pack matches a profile, tagged animals replace the typical agent. The typical polyline stays as a ghost flyway.
- 04Label The HUD never pretends a typical migrant is a tagged individual.
